Local Laws

Smoking is prohibited in enclosed public spaces, including bars, restaurants, and public transport. There are designated smoking areas outside many establishments.

Dublin has strict anti-litter laws. You can be fined for littering, including dropping cigarette butts or gum on the streets. Bins are readily available throughout the city.

Ireland drives on the left side of the road. Pedestrians should use designated crosswalks and obey traffic signals. Jaywalking can result in fines. Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, and mobile phone use while driving is illegal.

Drinking alcohol in any public place in Dublin is strictly banned.

As Ireland is an extremely Catholic country, it is common for most businesses to be closed during religious holidays, as they are considered national holidays.
